Having glossy, thick, voluminous, and healthy hair on your head is one thing. It is quite another to have persistent or excessive hairs between the eyebrows, above the lips, in the armpits, or on your legs and bikini line. The good news is women in the Dallas, Texas area have a truly permanent solution for hair removal that is also safe for people of color and individuals with curly, wavy, coarse, and light, gray, or blonde hairs: next-generation electrolysis services at Beverly Hills Hair Free Dallas.

How do these services work?

Electrolysis, in general, targets and permanently damages the stem cells inside of your hair follicles. These stem cells function to support future hair regrowth. Once they are destroyed, hair can no longer grow at the treatment sites due to this fundamental principle behind treatment. Electrolysis does not utilize heat produced by radiofrequency energy or laser light. So, damage to the skin from heat is minimized. This characteristic also supports a more comfortable treatment experience. Instead, electrolysis uses electrical impulses to damage the stem cells. This electric current is delivered via small probes that are inserted into the follicles at the sites of your unwanted hair. With traditional electrolysis, one probe is used to treat each follicle. Our advanced approach uses up to 32 probes to treat follicles efficiently – up to 40% faster than conventional methods.

Why is electrolysis safe for women of color?

Electrolysis is a very inclusive treatment, appropriate for all skin tones and hair colors and types. Lasers are largely not indicated for people of color or individuals with certain types, such as lighter or blonde hair. This is because the laser targets the melanin pigment that gives our skin and hair color. This approach has limitations, as the laser cannot safely and effectively distinguish between the melanin in the skin and the melanin in the hair. For this reason, lasers have long been associated with risks of damage to the surrounding tissues among individuals with melanated skin. Since electrolysis works differently by targeting the stem cells in the follicles and not pigment, the risk of hyper and hypopigmentation, scarring, and other complications associated with laser-assisted treatment is avoided.

But will the hair grow back thicker?

No! In fact, the hair won’t grow back at all. After your initial series of treatments (which can be completed as quickly as 18-24  months), your skin will be smooth and hair-free for life. You will not need any “touch-ups” or maintenance treatments. It really is the only permanent solution to remove unwanted hair, and even the FDA has recognized electrolysis as such.

This makes electrolysis a good option for women whose unwanted hair may be due to hormonal conditions or changes, such as PCOS and menopause. This form of hirsutism has traditionally been associated with a risk of developing paradoxical hypertrichosis when undergoing other types of hair removal methods, such as lasering. This complication results in hair growing back thicker than before it was treated. So, laser techniques can have the opposite effect of what was intended and desired among certain patients, like women with hormonal imbalances. Here again, electrolysis is perfectly safe and FDA-approved for women who are not good candidates for the laser and may be at risk of developing this condition.
