At our practice, we treat people. It doesn’t matter your hair type, skin type, needs, gender, identity, or underlying medical condition – we welcome the opportunity to support you in your journey to feeling confident in the “skin that you are in.” We take a special interest in and have unique expertise with certain conditions, including hair removal for men and women with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS).
Individuals with HS may find that their skin is no longer as inflamed and painful because they no longer need to regularly irritate areas with shaving. It also helps with discomfort and odor in those skin folds and other areas where HS tends to develop. We take an empathetic and thoughtful approach to comfortably and safely treating our clients with HS.
Definitely! For starters, our method of choice (electrolysis) is the only treatment cleared by the FDA for the permanent removal of unwanted or excess hair. Laser treatment can permanently reduce the thickness of hair but does not completely remove all hair for good. If you or a family member has HS, you may also be precluded from laser treatment and other methods that generate heat during the process. Alternative methods aside from electrolysis are generally not indicated because they can inflame already irritated and sensitive skin. They may contribute to flare-ups of HS. Electrolysis targets the stem cells within the follicles to promote truly lasting results, and it accomplishes this without the use of potentially painful and damaging heat.

We use a special type of electrolysis known as “multi-probe galvanic electrolysis.” This method is known to be faster and more comfortable than other forms of electrolysis, partly because we can use up to 32 probes to deliver electrical impulses to the follicles rather than just one probe. Due to our electrologists’ use of multiple probes and lack of heat, we can treat more areas comfortably during each appointment. This means fewer return trips to our office for treatment. Additionally, our treatment is well-suited to all areas of the body, including HS-prone folds (such as the armpits, groin, and buttocks).
Nothing is holding you back at our practice! Electrolysis is appropriate for all hair and skin types. This is important for individuals with HS, as it tends to disproportionately affect those with melanin-rich skin. Methods like lasers that use heat have long been associated with complications in darker skin, such as the risk of light discoloration (hypopigmentation) and scars.
We can treat all clients with HS, and we can do so without the risk of other methods. This distinction is partly due to how treatments like lasers target the melanin pigment in the hair follicles and not the stem cells. It can be difficult for the laser to target the pigment in white, gray, or blonde hairs, and this technology has generally worked best in those individuals with darker hair and lighter skin. The melanin is not an issue with electrolysis, as it tracks the stem cells to destroy follicles and not pigment.
