What are depilatory creams?

Are depilatory creams right for everyone?

You should not use depilatory creams if you have:

- Broken or compromised skin
- Rosacea
- Eczema
- Acne
- Psoriasis
- Sunburn
- Retinols, retinoids, and other products that make your skin more sensitive are incorporated into your skincare routine
Can I ever use depilatory creams on my face?
Possibly, if you are the right candidate and also use the right product. Depilatory creams differ. Some are formulated for certain hair types, and others are formulated for specific parts of the body. It is essential to use creams that are specially formulated for sensitive areas, such as the face. Never use a cream designed for the body on areas like your face or bikini line. Also, to avoid potentially severe effects such as burns, it is critical to:
- Read and follow the directions listed on the bottle.
- Even if you think depilatory creams are safe for your skin type, always test them out first before slathering on the product. Perform a patch test to see how your skin reacts.
- Refrain from using products on sensitive areas such as near the eyes, nose, or ears unless they are formulated for those areas, and never use them on broken, irritated, or compromised skin.
- Never leave creams on your skin for longer than the recommended time, which varies by product but is usually between 3-10 minutes.
- Rinse the product off your skin thoroughly after the recommended time.
- Use an unscented, simple, calming moisturizer to soothe and protect the skin afterward.
